One of the first brands of soft cookies. They came in a bag that was supposd to look like an embroidered sampler. The best kind were the peanut butter with the chocolate on top. The commercials were based on the idea that they were supposed to taste almost homemade.

I think it came to America in '83 or early '84. It was a milk chocolate koala bear candy bar filled with caramel. I am not sure how long it was around before it came to America but they advertised it like it was a popular snack in Australia and now "You can get Aussie Bars right here"! That could have just been an advertising kind of stunt. Another commercial had kids singig "Aussie Bear....Aussie Bear..." I am not sure when they were no longer available but they were quite tasty.
Aussie Bear chocolates
I think aussie bears are the same thing as Caramello Koalas. They are on the website for Cadbury Australia, www.cadbury.com.au They can be found under 'choose a product', then 'kids confectionary'
BIG SHOT
It was chocolate milk flavoring in pressurized can. There was a picture of a soda jerk on the can. The can would be turned upside down, the top of the can pressed against the top of the glass. Pressing down on the can released a high pressure stream of chocolate syrup into the milk. The high pressure made it unnecessary to stir the milk.
BK Broilers
Burger King had more than one grilled chicken sandwich in the late '80s, they had 3! The only difference between them was the toppings and cheeses. I think Burger King still sells one of them, its about the only thing left at Burger King that isn't deep-fried.

Adams introduced Beeman's Gum in late 1890's and became popular throughout the 1950's. Warner-Lambert bought the Adam's Gum company and discontinued the gum in the mid 1970's until it's re-appearence in the 80's through WL's "Nostalgia Gum Program".

Burger King Burger Buddies
I worked at Burger King in 1989 and they came out with two small mini burgers that were attached called Burger Buddies. 2 for $1. I remember them because the frozen patties were already attached and stayed that way through the grill, and the buns were too; but easy to break off and eat seperatly. Also - they were small enough to eat in a couple bites in the back room without being noticed for a quick snack!!

A fruit punch flavored drink from the makers of Canada Dry ginger ale.

The package was bright yellow and inside were two sticks of very strong flavoured processed soft cheese with a lattice/criss cross wafer on the outside. They were then sprinkled with a very strong cheese flavoured powder. They were really strong!!. I think they were only about for a year or so - then they disapeared. Shame. I used to love em!!

Cherry Clans
These actually belong to the lemon heads and Alexander the Grape family but deserve special mention because they are the only ones no longer available. The racist, stereotypical Chinese charicature depicted on the front of the box wasn't politically correct enough for the 90's.

Chocolate Payday
This was a chocolate covered Payday bar. They were great but they didn't last too long.
Chocolate Riesens
Yummy chocolate covered carmels that are still sold today by Storck. Very tuff carmel though, until it is thoroughly worked over. We actually started either freezing them to make them crunchy, to avoid the tooth pulling properties of the candy.
Chocolate Snaps
I think Nabisco made them. They'd come in a small brown and white box with a superimposed drawn face of an animal over a cookie. Small, dark, crispy chocolate cookies that were around until the early 90s. They also came in chocolate chip (red and white box I believe). They were so good!

Nobody other than me seems to remember them.

Yellow coated bubble gum that came in a little fabric bag with a drawstring. Each piece of gum was a different size... like little nuggets. The bag had brown lettering and a gold drawstring.
Gold Rush Ice Cream Bars
Almost identical to the Snickers frozen ice cream bars of today. I think there were 3 varities. These were awesome!!!
Goober Grape
PB&J in a single jar. It made making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches much easier. It had alternating columns of peanut butter and grape jelly throughout the jar. I'm pretty sure it's still around.

Boxed fruit drinks, kind of like HI-C. There were 4 flavors, Awesome Orange, Galactic Grape, Superstar Strawberry, and Captain Punch. They had a commercial where the flavors danced around and were all friends - hence the name.
Good Humor Fat Frog
A Green spotted frog on a popsicle stick. It was a very sweet artificial flavor. Distributed by Good Humor. It existed basically in the mid-80's then faded away.
Gourmet in a bag
Vicki Lawrence did the commercial. You put fresh chicken in the bag, shook it up and nukked it. It was horrible but I ate a lot of it as a newlywed who was not a great cook.
Granola Clusters
These were long, tube-shaped granola bars with a nougat center. SOOOOOO good! My mom would pack them for school lunches.
Grasshopper Cookies
From Keebler, these looked like Oreos, but had green filling with a minty taste, and were particularly delightful. These are NOT the same as modern grasshopper cookies, which are chocolate covered hard one piece things.
Great Blue-dini Kool-Aid
This Kool-Aid had an octopus on the front with a top hat on. It was green powder but it changed to bright blue when it hit water. Not sure when this went away (90's I believe) but OMG, it was so good, my favorite of all time. I've even written to Kool-Aid to bring it back but no luck. :o(
Green Christmas Tree Ice Cream
Please, someone say you remember these! No one believes me!!! They were Christmas trees made out of green ice cream with tiny little rainbow ball sprinkles on them. I can't remember what flavor the ice cream was, but you could get them every year at the grocery store. They were delicious!
Grilled Chicken Sandwiches
During the low-fat craze of the late '80s, every fast food joint had grilled chicken sandwiches. They are about the only low-fat fast food still around from that era.
Groff's potato chips
I remember the original flavor being in a white bag with dark blue stripes and they were very crunchy and delicious. They may have only been sold in New England and in the early to mid 80's.
Gummi Colas [?]
I remember them from the very late 80's, they were little gummy root beer flavored chewies in the shape of a soda bottle. I don't remember if they were marketed by Coke or not, but they were a HUGE fad when I was in 1st grade.
Gummy Bears
Before Disney launched a cartoon about them, there was gummy everything. But the original gummy candy was the Gummy Bear. A rubbery like candy that came in all kinds of colors and flavors. I used to like licking the back of them and sticking them to windows.

Do you remember these? No one I talk to seems to remember. They were around in the early 80's...little cans of soda. They were the same diameter as a regular can of soda, just half as tall. I was just a little kid in the early 80's but I definitely remember. Maybe they were region- specific. (I'm in WA State) Do you remember them?

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure about these delicious cheese and crackers. They were my favorite.

Pink carbonated drink in 2 liters that seemed to have the same reaction as Jolt. Maybe it was only around the Chicago area, but it was still quite the treat.
Hawaiian Kettle Chips
These were a thickly cut type of potato chip that came out in the Mid-80's. They came in giant bags and were really cheap
Heart
It was an icecream - really creamy vanilla icecream and covered in milk chocolate. The packaging was bright red and said "Have a...Heart". It was a really nice icecream, but I tried it a few years back, and the quality is not as good nowadays.
Hershey Granola Bars
They were granola bars made by Hershey's(came in a brown box) and the peanut butter ones tasted like a Whatamacallit candy bar(without the carmel). Very GOOD!!
Heyday Bars

Hi-C Candy Apple Cooler
Apple tasting(sort of?) very sweet, not unlike all Hi-C juice drinks!

These are just like the Hostess fruit pies, but they are filled with vanilla or chocolate pudding. The entire pie was dipped in chocolate. The ad campaign consisted of the slogan "Puddin Power".
Hostess Pudding Pie
Just like the Hostess Fruit Pies but they contained pudding inside. They were really quite good.
Hot Cuts
It was a sliced, formed piece of "topping" that you put on top of a piece of toasted bread to create a hot, open faced sandwich. They were like regular Nerds, but instead of being fruit-flavored, one side of the package held Hot (red, cinnamon-flavored) Nerds, and the other side of the box held Cold (light blue, wintergreen-flavored) Nerds. Hotdogs
Hotdogs was gum that had a cinnamon flavor and came packaged just like real hotdogs.
Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum
I remember Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum. It came in like a million flavors I remember even Root Beer and Cola. I'Screams Cookies
These were cookies, like Oreo's, with a creme filling. However, the cookie itself had a design of ice cream cone on it and a bit of the creme filling was pushed up through the top part of the ice cream cone design on the cookie. This was probably between 1983 and 1985, it has been forever...

Indian Corn Chips
Sort of like Fritos but bigger and without all the extra salt. Had temporary tattoos inside that were of Indian things like arrowheads and bow and arrows. The tattoos were not food coloring based like the Cracker Jack ones, but slide off in one piece after being wet with a cloth. Couldn't get them off except with baby oil! The chips were great. Much better than Fritos. I used to eat these by the bag with a Tiger Red cream soda to wash them down.
It's It
Definitely the first ice cream sandwich on the market that used cookies for the outer layer. Best part was they used to cover the whole thing with chocolate which made for a messy meal. Snackalicious though! I remember flavors such as mint chip, chocolate chip, and coffee. I'm sure there were others, but these were the snackiest.
Italian Sausage Sandwich by Pizza Hut
It was an Italian Sausage sandwich made with the same sausage on their pizza with some special seasoning. I'm told that they quit making them because they take too much time and oven space for the price.

Koala Springs Cola

There were a handfull of glass jarred ready-to-eat pastas in the 80s. I always thought this was the next advance beyond the nasty canned pasta, boy was I wrong! This stuff was SO GOOD I would say it was even better than some frozen pastas of today. Where did it go, and why hasn't anyone brought back this great idea? They put Ragu in jar, this just had the pasta too. It holds MUCH better flavor than canned, and stores way easier than frozen. It was also better than those plastic microwave ones they have by Hormel or whoever. I might have the "Leonne's" spelled wrong. Thanks for a great site! Dave

Mountain Berry Punch Kool-Aid
Best flavour of Kool-Aid ever. I think it was a mix of Blackberry, Raspberry, and Strawberry or something, discontinued (in Canada, at least) around 1987-8. I remember the sadness I felt while mixing up the last batch of it, knowing I'd never taste it again...

Oreo Big Stuff
Giant sized oreos that came packaged in individual cellophane wrappers and about six to a box. They were large....about 4 inches across and a godsend to those who'd twist apart oroeos and stick em together to make a larger cookie. Took a big glass of milk though!

It was a Chunky sized candy, with a square cookie base and a huge amount of peanut butter on top covered in milk chocolate. I remember eating these in the late 80s, they were the best!

I'm pretty sure that's what this stuff was called. I don't know if it was introduced in the 80's or earlier, but I do know that it disappeared after the 80's. It was cannisters of chocolate or vanilla milk mix. It was more crystal form than powder, and I remember if you put it on ice cream when it started melting it would turn colors.

The consistancy's of the sauces were similar.

They came in a package, simular to the ones today, paper with foil that the cookies come in. I think they were the 80s' maybe the 70's, but I am almost positive they were the 80s. They came in a package of like 6, and they were the BEST store bought brownies ever! I have never bought another brownie that is packaged mass marketed that tasted better. They were wonderful if they were heated up in the Micro. I think they were only available for 1-3 years. I have not seen these in eons....

Pop Shoppe was forced out by Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola when big department stores would get huge discounts by purchasing large lots of product (mostly inexpensive cans), dropping prices below the prices of Pop Shoppe (the deposit on the bottles added as much as $.30 per bottle, which would be refunded of course, but this hurt them).

I'm surprised no one has mentioned these yet- I think they came out in the 80's. I was in 4th grade (1985) when I first saw the commercial- I remember one girl had them in her lunch bag one day- we were all begging her to give us ONE PIECE! The strawberry flavor was hands down the most popular flavor at school (good for trading!) I think they still use the same slogan in the commercials "taste the rainbow". Yum!
Skor Bar
Similar to a Heath bar,but one piece instead of 2 small chocolate covered toffee. My old favorite!
Skulls
These were little white soft candy "skulls" that oozed red cherry-flavour goo when you bit into them. Gross but good!

A spicy meat snack made with beef, pork and poultry by-products.
Slime Slurps
Slime Slurps... Delicious little gelatin-like gummi candies placed in a molded piece of plastic with an easy to peel-off saran-wrap type "lid" - 6 in a package (ie: spiders or other bugs), which you would peel out of the mold and slurp... Hence the name.. Slime-Slurps? Remember these?
Slush Puppy
Popular in the early 80's. Fruit flavoured, crushed ice drinks, loads of colouring agents.
Slush Puppy Gum

Slushers
These were fruit flavore syrup in a small plastic tub thatyou would put in the freezer over-nite and when you got up the next morning you would stir it up with your spoon to make it slushy. The only two flavors that i can remember were grape and cherry. They were awsome!!

I remember it came in three different varieties...I think they were plain, w/meatballs, and w/cheese.

Snowcaps
Chocolate small round shaped candy with white flaky frosting on top in a white rectangular box
Snyder's of Hanover Potato Chips
This Pennsylvania company also made pretzels, but it was the bizarre flavors of chips such as grilled steak, barbeque chicken, and honey mustard that distinguished it's snacks from the bigger companies.
Soap Candies
I know these tiny, soapy tasting, stick to your teeth, chewy candies were a real hit amongst the kids when I was in 5th/6th grade. One of the only places that they could be found was the "candy hut" at Sears. I haven't seen them at all in years. As silly as it seems now, we really enjoyed trying to figure out what kind of "soap" made each colorful little morsel.

Sour Power
Sour Power was a long red chewy candy (similar to Twizzlers) and it had a sugary coating that was also sour. They didn't come in packaging because they were kept in a plastic container on the store's counter, and they were sold by the quantity. They were around in 1988 and I'm not sure if they are still being sold.
Sour cream and onion Doritos
Tasted kind of like the cool ranch ones of today, but were much better. They came in a green bag and were awesome.

Space Burger
All non-chain burger stores in Scandinavia introduced the Space Burger in the early 80's. Consisted of a circular slice of pineapple on top of a well-stuffed and mayo-dressing-soaked quarterpounder. Tasted pretty weird, but as kids we loved that. This was HUGE over here

Space Dust: It was a sort of sugary citrus powder which came inside of plastic rocket ships. There were a couple of different flavors, and a lot of different containers...maybe even some asteroids.

Space Ice Cream
These were bought usually at musuems in the gift shop. It was a tri-colored piece of dry milk. It had three flavor strips, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. It was kind of nasty, didn't taste like ice cream at all, but a must have.

Squeez Cheez
Came in a tube and you squeezed it onto crackers, etc. Like Cheez Whiz in a tube. I think there was a red tab on the top!
Squeez-It Gels
I think it was called that, but I might be wrong. It was basically a Squeez-it with Jell-o instead of juice. Quite a delicious treat.
Squeez-its
Plastic bottle filled with a kool-aid type drink that was squeezable and comical faces on the bottle.
Squirley Q's
Came in a red package. Plain cookie with a chocolate swirl in the middle. Not made anymore, believed to be made in the 80's

StarBar
It was the '80s version of the Nutrageous candy bar: peanut butter and caramel on the inside with the chocolate outside. The commercials had people in stressful and timely situations, and once they started eating this candy bar, they became mellow. Everyone is rushing to get his tires changed etc. and the guy just sits there calmly eating his StarBar while everyone is screaming for him to go.

They were flat pieces of frozen meat that came in a box with a piece of paper between each one. You cooked 'em in a skillett and ate them on a bun or bread.
Sticklets Gum
A gimmick gum that came out sometime around '88. It's big sales pitch was that of economy. Wherein a typical (at that time) Wrigley's pack carried 7 sticks, The Sticklets pack carried nine slender sticks. Both packs were the same size, yet the Sticklets packs had the gum "cut" parallel to the shorter side of the pack so as to make 9 sticks instead of 7.
Strawberry Filled Twinkies
A regular Twinkie, but inside, instead of cream filling, it had a strawberry filling.

Another product which may have originated earlier(I'm not sure), but that I know had a surge in the 80s.

Suncheros
Being a "Child of the 80s", I can't help myself ... Suncheros by Keebler. They were like Doritos, and came in Dorito-type flavors (Nacho Cheese, Pepperoni Pizza, etc), and I distinctly remember the jingle: "Suncheros ... Suncheros light-n-crispy, cuz they're made my poquenos Keeb-le-rooos."
Sundance
Sundance was a non-alcoholic beverage that I haven't seen since 1989 or shortly afterward. It was packaged in glass bottles. After searching to purchase some online, I found an article that said it was manufactured by Stroh Brewery Company in the '80's, but now by another company.

Super Socco
An orange drink, very tangy, and very gross IMHO. Commercials always featured kids playing soccer, hence the name "socco" I guess. It came in juice boxes(tetra pacs), don't remember what the boxes looked like exactly, but they had a soccer ball on them...
Superman peanut butter
I remember having this stuff around 1980. Before that Skippy was the brand of choice in our house. Superman was a little bit sweeter and therefore replaced Skippy in our house, until they stopped making the Superman PB. It had a black label with the comic book Superman cartoon on it, and the Superman logo. I loved that stuff!

Tab
The diet soda in the pink can. It had only one calorie. Immortalized in "Back to The Future".
Taco Bell Chicken Fajitas
I first remeber having this in Fall of 1988, it might have been first introduced then. It tasted a little different from the chicken soft tacos they have in it's place today, i guess it had grilled onions and a different sauce. I remember them offering it in 1989 as well but might have changed it in 1990 to a Chicken Soft Taco as a part of its value menu (the chicken soft taco was offered for .79). After 1989, I dont remember seeing the chicken fajitas, only the slightly different chicken soft taco was offered.
Taco Bell Grande
Basically, an overgrown version of the current Taco Supreme, the shell was bigger than the usual tacos...the first time I ever heard of Sour Cream, much less what you could put it on. A mainstay in my diet at the time, debuted roughly 1985.

A delicious tropical fruit flavored Ice-pop. It was striped with three different flavors (one was probably a melon, one pinapple and I don't remember the other) and I was only able to get them off of the Ice Cream truck. Okay, I'm not *sure* if this was 80s or 90s but remember Yop, the drinkable yogurt? I think it's still around in some form today, I just remember seeing Yop commercials while watching Pee Wee Herman on TV (now that's gotta be 80s!) Correct me if I'm wrong. It's all blending together! Awesome site, BTW! :-)
Yoplait Dessert Yogurt
This yogurt was a bit creamier, and sweeter than regular yogurts. It was so good, and came in dessert flavors like Cherries Jubilee, Amaretto, A raspberry flavor, and a dutch choclate that tasted like choclate cheesecake. They were all so good, but my favorites were the amaretto, and chocolate. It came out around 1987, and was out only a year or two. I still crave them.
York Peppermint Patties
Small round chocolate covered mints. I remember in the commercial the girl would be shivering after eating it
Yumbo
Burger King had a ham and cheese sandwich called the Yumbo. It was hot and the cheese was melted much like the cheese you get with nachos so it was pretty messy but always delicious!

cherry ripe
candy bar from AUstralia. Came in a red foil wrapper, with of course a koala on it. It was cherry flavored coconut dipped in chocolate. A favorite circa 1985-8?
chew man chew
I think that's the name. It's an individually wrapped gum. The wrapper was orange with confuscious (chinese face) on the wrapper and the gum was long and thin and a bit hard. Tasted great but for only like 10 mins then the flavor was gone but I loved this gum and can't find it anywhere, not even sure if it's called Chew man Chew-that's what my roommate calls it.
chippo's potato chips
Potato chips, that advertised, "not as greasy as regular chips,", they would show two bowls lined with paper towels, one with regular chips, one with chippo's... and the chippo's side didn't have the oil stained towel, they also came in a foil line box, ( i think ,like bugels)
general mills breakfast squares
these awesome and tasty breakfast treats came twin wrapped in a foil/paper pouch and boxed in 4 packages (containing 2 squares each) by general mills, i believe. description: 2 1/2 inches x 2 1/2 inches in size, about an 3/4 of an inch thick and came in 3 flavors...vanilla, spicey or cinnamon and chocolate. these bars were dry, layered cake-like, but hard and somewhat "crumby" and were frosted accordingly with the flavor of the square...my favorite was chocolate...then they came out with the variety box featuring all flavors. I never see them and haven't for years. it's my best guess that they were introduced in the mid to late 70's and vanished in the early to mid 80's.

These are Peppridge Farms cookies that are crisp shortbread cookies with a dark chocolate coating and crushed walnuts on one side.
hamburger helper-taco or pizza bake

Ice cream sandwich with chocolate chip cookies for the crusts. Very good.

peanut butter bopper
It came in a purple package with pink letters. In the middle it had peanut butter and covered with chocolate. On the outside i think it was rice crispies.
pot sweets
